Radial Pressure Wave (Shockwave) Therapy
Radial Pressure Wave Therapy (RPW), often called shockwave therapy, is a noninvasive treatment that uses controlled acoustic pressure waves to target painful or restricted areas of the body. These pressure waves may help stimulate circulation, support the body's natural healing response, reduce discomfort, and improve mobility.

What Can RPW Help With?
RPW may be incorporated into a personalized treatment plan for certain muscle, tendon, and soft-tissue conditions, including:
- Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
- Achilles tendon discomfort
- Tennis or golfer's elbow
- Shoulder and rotator cuff discomfort
- Knee and patellar tendon pain
- Muscle tightness and trigger points
- Other chronic soft-tissue discomfort
What to Expect
During treatment, a provider applies gel to the treatment area and uses a handheld device to deliver pressure waves into the targeted tissue. Patients commonly describe the sensation as rapid tapping or pulsing. The intensity can be adjusted based on your comfort and treatment needs.
Treatments are generally brief, require no incisions or injections, and typically involve little to no downtime. Some patients may experience temporary tenderness, redness, or mild soreness following treatment.
Is RPW Right for You?
Your provider will evaluate your condition, medical history, and treatment goals to determine whether Radial Pressure Wave Therapy is appropriate for you. The number of sessions recommended will vary depending on your condition and response to treatment.
